Innovations in the newspaper market

Study „Excellence Barometer Reader" (ExBa Reader)

The Excellence Barometer® (ExBa) is a study initiative of the market research institute „forum!img1 Marktforschung GmbH“ and the German association of quality control “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Qualität DGQ e.V.“ On the platform of this initiative, forum! conducts since 2001 annual surveys on the business performance of the German economy and investigates on a broad basis the factors for business success.

From the ExBa customer surverys, forum! has derived a causal model of emotional customer loyalty that can be adapted to all lines of business. In ExBa Readers this model is adapted to the print media. ExBa Readers is a cooperation of forum! Marktforschung GmbH and GESO Gesellschaft für sozialwissenschaftliche Begleitforschung mbH.

ExBa Readers explains how readership satisfaction and brand management of the local and regional newspapers influence their readership loyalty. Thus ExBa Readers shows the key levers for an effective improvement of customer loyalty - also meaning profitability - of newspaper readers.

ExBa Reader is the first national representative benchmark study to show the reader loyalty of local and regional newspapers. The study was conducted in March 2006 as telephone survey (sample size: n= 602).

The documentation of the results of the study (120 pages, full colour, in German) can be ordered with the attached order form Bestellfax. The costs will be Euro 975, -- plus VAT.

German newspaper publishers do not dominate the international trendnewspaper

The managing directors and publishers of the German newspapers think that a lot of activities are necessary to secure the future of the medium but in fact they are doing less as they think they should do. The publishers are especially sceptical regarding two trends which are dominating the industry internationally: the establishing of free newspapers and the conversion to the tabloid format.

In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and the market research institute IFAK in Taunusstein GESO GmbH carried out an online survey to managing directors and publishers of German newspapers to know more about the situation in the German newspaper market. In addition the managing directors of media agencies and the head of marketing of important newspapers clients have been asked to present their views.

The documentation of the results of the study (in German) can be ordered with the attached order form Fax-Bestellschein. The costs will be Euro 490, -- plus VAT.
